Carl Budich

Carl Budich (born February 5, 1904 in Reinfeld (Holstein) , † January 14, 1982 in Lübeck ) was a German educator and Low German writer.

Life

Budich was the son of a farmer. He attended school in Reinfeld, the reform grammar school in Bad Oldesloe and then began an apprenticeship in the office of H. & J. Brüggen in Lübeck. However, he soon decided to do his Abitur and did so at a grammar school in Lübeck. From 1923 he studied German at the University of Hamburg with Low German , English, French and folklore . In 1928, he was here with a thesis on Hermann Boßdorf Dr. phil. PhD. He got his first job as a teacher at the Wichern School of the Rauhen Haus in Hamburg . From 1936 to 1958 he was teacher at the Ernestine School in Luebeck . Although not a member of the NSDAP , from 1937 to 1945 he was a part-time municipal commissioner for Low German culture and lecturer for Low German at the Lübeck language school for teachers.

Budich first wrote comedies for Low German theaters, later also school books. The Low German Stage Lübeck performed several of his pieces with success, in particular Leben in de Bood. Several of his books were published by the Fehrs-Gilde . In 1955 he published a selection of the poems by Hermann Claudius that has been reprinted several times . Since the second half of the 1960s he became well known with his various North German joke and Döntjes collections.
