Carl Joachim Ernst Düberg (born March 19, 1801 in Wismar ; † September 1, 1849 there ) was a German painter and lithographer .

Life

Carl Düberg was the son of the Nadler Johann Carl Düberg (* 1769); his grandfather immigrated to Wismar from Stockholm . His younger brother was the lawyer and publicist Christian Düberg .

Carl first learned handicrafts in his hometown of Wismar and then from 1820 studied painting with a major in history painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . On trips to Italy, Greece and France he got to know the Nazarenes during a long stay in Rome , through whom he was strongly influenced in his later work. In the 1830s he returned to Wismar and made a name for himself there as a portrait painter and draftsman. Carl Canow , who also worked in Wismar, was one of his students from this time . In the town hall of Wismar he had the order to paint the audience hall with frescoes , which he no longer finished.

In later years Düberg became increasingly interested in the natural sciences. After his return from France he sometimes signed with the stage name Dumont ; In this context, Thieme-Becker refers to the lithograph of a portrait of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg-Schwerin .
