Carl Edmund von Berckefeldt

Carl Edmund von Berckefeldt (born April 9, 1830 in Münden , † October 25, 1899 in Hanover ) was a Hanoverian captain , Prussian major and most recently mayor of Springe .

origin

His parents were the Colonel a. D. Carl Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Eberhard von Berckefeld (* May 23, 1795; † November 12, 1865) and his wife Sophie Dorothea Johanne Frederike Kritter (* October 10, 1796; † January 19, 1869). His father was a Hanoverian colonel in the Minden Landwehr battalion and heir to Cuvental and Rittgerode.

Life

Berckefeld joined the Hanover Cadet Corps and joined the 2nd Jäger Battalion on May 30, 1848. On August 6, 1848, he was transferred to the 3rd Jäger Battalion as a second lieutenant and as such took part in the first Schleswig war . It was not until September 11, 1856 that he was promoted to Premier Lieutenant . On September 20, 1859 he became a captain and on September 21, 1862 he was transferred to the 2nd Jäger Battalion as a company commander. During the German War of 1866 he fought against the Prussians. After the defeat in the war, the kingdom was annexed by Prussia and the army disbanded. Berckefeldt was released on January 1, 1867.

He switched to Prussian services and was aggregated as a captain 1st class in the 30th Infantry Regiment on March 9, 1867, and was assigned as company commander there on November 14, 1867. During the Franco-Prussian War he was aggregated as a surplus major on June 20, 1870, classified on August 3, 1870, and appointed battalion commander on October 16, 1870. In the battle at Rambervillers he was seriously injured by a shot in the chest. For the campaign he received the Iron Cross 2nd class .

After the war he was transferred to the 2nd Battalion of the 55th Infantry Regiment on April 13, 1872 , and retired on November 12, 1874 with a pension and permission to wear the uniform of the 55th Infantry Regiment.

After leaving the army, he first became a bailiff in Castrop and Wetter an der Ruhr. Most recently he was mayor in Springe. His wife died while visiting America. After his return he lived from 1895 on the manor Bothmer near Schwarmstedt and died on October 25, 1899 in Hanover.

Berckefeldt married Ulrike Charlotte Julie von Voigt on March 27, 1857 in Lamspringe (born November 18, 1833, † September 19, 1893 in Fort Smith ). The couple had several children:
