Carl Friedrich Hergenhahn

Carl Friedrich Hergenhahn (born July 8, 1793 in Wiesbaden ; † August 21, 1868 there ) was Lieutenant General in Nassau .

Life

Carl Friedrich Hergenhahn joined the Ducal Nassau Army as a cadet on December 15, 1810 . He served in the 2nd regiment from April 1812 and was promoted to lieutenant on April 10, 1813. He fought in the Wars of Liberation and fell into French captivity on December 21, 1813. On August 31, 1814, he became a first lieutenant. He took part in the Battle of Waterloo and was wounded there. On March 19, 1820 he became captain of the 1st regiment.

In 1830 he was transferred to the General Staff and promoted to major on April 1, 1840 . On July 30, 1948 he became a lieutenant colonel and on April 19, 1841, a colonel . On March 6, 1855, he received the appointment of major general and the task of head of the war department. In 1862 he was a lieutenant general retired .

In 1865 he was one of the initiators of the installation of the Wiesbaden Waterloo monument . He is buried in the old cemetery in Wiesbaden. His grave no longer exists.

He wrote the work The Share of the Duke Nassau Troops in the Spanish War from 1808 to 1814 , Wiesbaden 1840.
