Karl Gustav Fabricius

Karl Gustav Fabricius , also Carl Gustav Fabricius (born August 1, 1788 in Stralsund , † January 10, 1864 in Stralsund) was a German politician and mayor of Stralsund. His work on the history of the city and Rügen is of great importance for the local history of the region.

Life

Fabricius, who came from an old Stralsund family who had renamed himself from Schmidt to Fabricius in the 17th century , was the son of Syndicus Adam Fabricius from his first marriage. After private lessons in their early years, he attended the former St. Catherine's Dominican monastery housed gymnasium Stralsund . From 1806 to 1809 he studied law in Helmstedt , Göttingen and Greifswald . In Göttingen he became a member of the Landsmannschaft Ruthenia, in which the Pomeranian and Baltic states had united. After accepting the SC-Comment 1809, he became the first general secretary of the Göttingen Senior Citizens' Convention and as such was consulted by the university in early July 1809 .

From 1809 Fabricius worked as a lawyer in Stralsund. In 1820 he was appointed to the city council and was director of the city court. In 1842 he was elected mayor. He was also a member of the Rügensch-Pomeranian state estates and a member of the Prussian manor house . For his work he was appointed a secret councilor. In 1856 he graduated as Dr. jur.

He researched the archives and the works of Johann Albert Dinnie on the Stralsund constitution and cultural history.

Karl Gustav Fabricius died in 1864 on the Schlagfluss , he was buried in the Stralsund St.-Jürgen-Friedhof . His successor as mayor was Otto Francke .

Works

Fabricius was extremely successful in researching the local history of Stralsund and Rügen until the Rügen princes died out in 1325. He drew the life of the Stralsund residents and researched the names of Stralsund streets , the city layout, the constitution and trade.

His nephew Ferdinand Fabricius completed the historical work, which was incomplete due to his sudden death, and added more. His half-brother Karl Ferdinand Fabricius was a lawyer.
