Carl Jürgen Hogrefe

Carl Jürgen Hogrefe (born January 29, 1924 in Hellental ; † January 21, 2007 in Göttingen ) was a German psychologist , founder and publisher of Hogrefe Verlag, which specializes in psychological literature .

Life

Hogrefe was born in Solling as the son of a teacher. The desire for a professional future in psychology arose at the officers' school in Poznan . Then Hogrefe attended appropriate courses at the university. After the end of the Second World War , Hogrefe turned back to psychology and began studying at the University of Göttingen .

The secondary publishing activity that happened by chance became more and more important over the years. Hogrefe finally decided in 1955 to give up his academic career and devote himself entirely to publishing. He remained connected to academic psychology and was elected to the board of the German Society for Psychology . In 1984 Hogrefe acquired the Hans Huber publishing house in Bern . With the acquisition of the company, the program was also expanded into the fields of medicine and nursing. In 1993 he stopped publishing because of an illness and handed over the management to his son G.-Jürgen Hogrefe.

In 1996 Hogrefe was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor by the Professional Association of German Psychologists . In 1998 he was made an honorary member by the German Society for Psychology.

Hogrefe was married to Gisela Hogrefe and has three children (including Dieter Hogrefe ).
