Carl Lindeberg

Carl Andreas Lindeberg (born October 6, 1876 in Gävle , Central Sweden, † May 27, 1961 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish painter, illustrator and commercial artist who worked in Germany and from whom many illustrations for Karl May come.

Live and act

Lindeberg studied at the art school in Stockholm . Subsequent scholarships took him to Copenhagen, Lübeck and Paris as well as to Saxony, where he did an apprenticeship in graphics in Schlettau in the Ore Mountains at the turn of the century and studied in Dresden .

In 1906/1907 Lindeberg moved to Radebeul at Kirchstrasse 1 (today Karl-May-Strasse) in the apartment building, which is now called Villa Lindeberg after him , in the immediate vicinity of Karl May . He was employed as a draftsman in the Union works . During this time he created many theater posters, but also the posters and certificates of honor for the exhibition of the Loessnitz villages in Kötzschenbroda in 1909.

In 1916, when Lindeberg became acquainted with Euchar Albrecht Schmid, he received his first illustration orders for the Karl May publishing house , which from 1920 employed him as a freelance worker.

Lindeberg created the book cover illustrations for the green and gold Radebeul Karl May edition , a total of more than 400 works on Karl May themes from his hand, many of his watercolors with Karl May scenes were printed as collector's pictures. He worked for more than 50 publishing houses and companies, including illustrations for the fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm and the novels by Friedrich Gerstäcker and James Fenimore Cooper .

In the Radebeuler Haupt & Hammon publishing house , Lindeberg published around 20 Orbis coloring books with figures that could be set up . In 1926 he founded his own publishing house, the painting book publisher Lindeberg & Co. Radebeul .

In February 1945 Lindeberg returned to Sweden, where he died in Stockholm in May 1961. He is buried in the forest cemetery in Stockholm- Enskede .
