Life

Mühry was one of four sons of the Hanoverian Senior Medical Council and Court Medical Officer Georg Friedrich Mühry . He began his medical studies at the Medical and Surgical University in Hanover and continued it in 1825 at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and became a member of the Corps Hannovera . His dissertation described the method used by Konrad Johann Martin Langenbeck to treat curvatures of the spine with stretching apparatus. He completed his studies in 1829 with a doctorate and went on a scientific study trip through Germany. In 1831 he completed his habilitation in Hanover, where he held lectures in physiology and pharmacology and opened a medical practice. He soon gave up the practice in Hanover because of his poor health, and in 1832 he settled on the North Sea island of Norderney , since 1797 the second oldest German seaside resort, as a spa doctor . His efforts for the scientific recognition of the seaside resort in Norderney were recognized by the government of the Kingdom of Hanover with the appointment as court medicus and in 1839 with the award of the Blumenbachianum scholarship . He used the funds from the scholarship in the winter of 1839/40 for an extensive study trip to the Dutch, French and southern English seaside resorts. The rigors of this trip overwhelmed his already poor health and led to his early death on his return.

His tomb, which he shared with his father, can be found in the garden cemetery in Hanover.
