Carl Petersen (historian)

Carl Petersen (born March 5, 1885 in Hvidding (North Schleswig), † January 26, 1942 in Berlin ) was a German historian and university professor .

Life

Carl Petersen was a son of the pastor and later general superintendent Peter Friedrich Petersen and his wife Johanna Ernestine Elisabeth, nee. Hansen (* 1862 in Hadersleben). He grew up in Hadersleben . After doctorate (1911) and habilitation (1922) he was an adjunct professor at Kiel University from 1927 to 1939 . From 1939 until his death in 1942 he was an extraordinary associate professor at the University of Greifswald for middle and modern history, especially Nordic intellectual history.

Petersen, like his friend Friedrich Wolters , was close to the George Circle .

He was married to Ida Minna (Minnie), geb. Robber (* 1882 in Elbing ). Leiva Petersen was a daughter of the couple.
