Carl Philipp von Venningen (* 1728 ; † August 27, 1797 in Eichtersheim ) was an imperial knight from the family of the Lords of Venningen . He was President of the Electorate of the Palatinate . As a child, he was the last living male descendant of the von Venningen family and thus united the entire family estate in Kraichgau at a young age , where he shaped the image of Eichtersheim and other places through extensive building activity.

He came from the Catholic branch of the Venning family. His grandfather Johann Augustin von Venningen († 1713) had converted to Catholicism, his brother, Lieutenant General Eberhard Friedrich von Venningen (1642–1710) from the Electoral Palatinate , remained Protestant. Carl Philipp von Venningen was born the son of Carl Ferdinand von Venningen (1693–1731) and Elisabeth Claudia von Reichenstein. The brother Christian von Venningen died as a child in 1731, the sister Maria Anna advised Carl Ferdinand von Hatzfeld in 1754 and was the mother of the Prussian general Franz Ludwig von Hatzfeldt .

Carl Philipp von Venningen was the only male descendant of the Venningen, since all other family lines in the male line had expired, his father died early and his brother also died as a toddler in the year his father died. As a result, Carl Philipp inherited the entire family estate at the age of 3. His mother was appointed legal guardian. In 1743 she married Christoph Philipp von Erthal, Kurmainzer bailiff and director of the Lohrer Spiegelmanufaktur , the second marriage, and became the stepmother of his children, a. a. of the later Prince-Bishops Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal and Franz Ludwig von Erthal . According to Karlheinz Bartels , a local researcher from Lohr , one of her stepdaughters (a sister of the two prince-bishops) is the real role model for the fairytale figure Snow White . Elisabeth Claudia von Erthal, widowed von Venningen, b. von Reichenstein is the evil stepmother described in the fairy tale .

Carl Philipp married Maria Anna von Hutten zu Stolzenberg († 1781) in 1750 , a great niece of the Speyer prince-bishop and cardinal Franz Christoph von Hutten zu Stolzenberg . A dozen children were born to the couple between 1751 and 1767. Son Franz Anton (1763–1799) founded an Eichtersheimer line that died out in 1907 , son Friedrich Anton (1765–1832) founded the Grombach line of the family that still exists today .

In the course of his life, Carl Philipp von Venningen expanded the inherited family property through further acquisitions, so that he also had ownership rights in the following places: Grombach , Hilsbach , Mühlhausen , Rappenau and Spechbach . To avoid inheritance disputes, which were once common with the Venningen, he created a family entailment in 1790 .
