Carl Reid
Carl Leonard Reid (born December 14, 1950 in Hagersville , Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian former Anglican bishop and a Roman Catholic clergyman since 2013 and professor of the staff ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross since 2019 .
Life
Carl Reid was baptized in the Anglican Church of Canada on 1951 . In 1973 he graduated from the Queen's University in Kingston with a degree in engineering before becoming the St. Bede's Online Theological College to study theology began, that he with the Master of Divinity completed. In 1988 Reid was ordained a deacon and on June 23, 1990 a priest of the Anglican Church of Canada. He was ordained bishop on January 27, 2007 as a member of the Traditional Anglican Communion and became suffragan bishop for the Ottawa area .
On April 15, 2012 , Carl Reid converted from the Anglican Church to the Roman Catholic Church. With celibacy dispensation he received the sacrament of priestly ordination for the staff ordinariate Kathedra Petri on January 26, 2013 in the Notre Dame cathedral basilica from the Archbishop of Ottawa , Terrence Thomas Prendergast . He then served as Dean of Saint John the Baptist Church and Rector of the Congregation of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary before becoming Rector of the Congregation of Blessed John Henry Newman Church in Victoria , British Columbia in 2014 .
On March 26, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Ordinary of the Personal Ordinary of Our Lady of the Southern Cross. He exercises this office without episcopal ordination , since married people are not ordained bishops in the Catholic Church. He has been permitted to wear a miter , pectoral cross, and ring , and a crosier in the same way as some abbots . The inauguration took place on August 27, 2019.
