Carl Woldemar Neumann

Carl Woldemar Neumann (born September 9, 1830 in Landau in the Palatinate , † February 7, 1888 in Regensburg ) was a local historian and Bavarian officer .

Life

Neumann joined the Munich Cadet Corps in 1840 . In Regensburg he worked from 1859 as first lieutenant and adjutant, later as captain . In 1860 he married Elise Kleinstäuber. In 1872 he had to quit his job due to his poor health and was able to concentrate on the history of Regensburg.

He devoted himself to researching local history with great passion. Many of his manuscripts are in the archives of the historical association and were recorded in the Regensburg bibliography. In addition, Neumann wrote a number of soldiers' songs, heroic songs and ballads.

From 1877 Neumann was an honorary citizen of the city of Regensburg.

He committed suicide in 1888 and was buried in the Lazarus cemetery in Regensburg, the area of ​​which later became part of the city park. The tombstone is still there.
