career

Oberliga Südwest, 1959 to 1963

Storck opened as a youth player at SC 07 Bürgel . Carlo Storck took his first steps in senior football with Germania Bieber's “yellow shirts” in Offenbach's Bieber-Waldhof district. When the former successful OFC player Heinz Baas took up the position of coach at the Southwest Upper Division FSV Mainz 05 for the 1959/60 season, the former amateur signed a contract with the Red-Whites and moved to Gutenberg City. With Helmut Müllges , Gerhard Natale, Manfred Nehren, Horst Schuch and Manfred Zimmer, other newcomers completed the Mainz squad. Storck made his debut on August 16, 1959, the first round match day, in the major league with a 2-0 home win against Sportfreunde 05 Saarbrücken as a middle runner in the World Cup system at that time . The home team Bruchwegstadion achieved Lothar Buchmann and Ulrich Muhl the hit and the 21-year-old while getting to know the performance level of the league. In the course of the round he could not conquer a regular place with ten league appearances with two goals. Mainz took 12th place. In his second league year 1960/61, the class of the newcomer Erich Bäumler and the conversion of coach Baas to a more flexible game system based on the South American model with an early form of the libero and a central midfielder, that the red-whites could occupy fifth place, Storck had 24 games, mostly as a pre-stopper or in the central midfield, played. In the last two years of the old first-class league, 1961/62 and 1962/63, the ex-Offenbach player completed all 60 league games. From 1959 to 1963 he played 94 league games in four rounds and scored five goals for the Baas-Elf.

Regionalliga Südwest, 1963 to 1970

In the debut year of the second-rate Regionalliga-Südwest, the 1963/64 season, Storck took fourth place with his teammates and had played 33 league games with six goals in the 20s season. The following season 1964/65 became the sporting highlight due to the excellent performances in the cup. First, the zero fives prevailed in the southwest against Eintracht Bad Kreuznach (3: 1), Hassia Bingen (6: 2), SV Hildburg Elkenroth (4: 1) and with a 4: 0 win at TuS Neuendorf in the fourth round and thus moved into the DFB Cup . In January and February 1965 they eliminated two Bundesliga clubs in the first two rounds. On January 16, Werder Bremen came to Mainz as leaders of the Bundesliga with 23:13 points and were defeated 1-0 in front of 12,000 spectators. As a pre-stopper, Storck neutralized the Bremen attack leader Arnold Schütz . Bremen managed to win the German championship at the end of the round . On February 6th, Storck and colleagues wrestled a 2-2 draw after extra time from TSV 1860 Munich under coach Max Merkel in front of 20,000 spectators. A fortnight later, on February 17th, they even managed a 2-1 away win in the stadium on Grünwalder Strasse . The European Cup finalist from Munich competed in the attack with Alfred Heiß , Hans Rebele , Rudi Brunnenmeier , Peter Grosser and Rudolf Steiner . The duels with goalscorer Brunnenmeier were among the highlights of Storck's career. In the quarter-finals on February 27, the Mainz team were able to defy 1. FC Nürnberg in front of 24,000 spectators until the second half, before the “club” prevailed 3-0 in the second 45 minutes. After 22 Bundesliga games, the Franconians were in fourth place with 27:17 points, tied with second and third place, traveled to Rheinhessen and had outstanding performers in their ranks with Ludwig Müller , Heinz Strehl and Ferdinand Wenauer . Storck had mainly had to do in the duels with "Club" center forward Strehl.

In the third regional league season 1965/66, Storck missed almost the entire first half of the season due to a protracted groin injury, but acted from the second half as the new Libero of the zero fives. Reinforced by the new playmaker Horst Hülß , Mainz narrowly missed the Bundesliga promotion round with third place. A convincing second half of the season with 23: 7 points - there were only two defeats and three draws in addition to ten wins - was not enough in the end to prevent the champions FK Pirmasens and runner-up 1. FC Saarbrücken from entering the promotion round. Constancy on the defensive played a major role in the success of this round, with goalkeeper Kurt Planitzer , defender pair Müllges and Heinz Wassermann , outside runners Günther Dutine and Kurt Sauer , as well as in central defense with Gerhard Görlach , in the first half of the season as libero and the second half of the season As a pre-stopper, from the second half of the season with Carlo Storck as libero, a well-rehearsed block acted, which had to answer only 39 goals in 30 league games. In 1967 and 1968, the Mainz team with Libero Storck was able to reduce the number of goals conceded to 35 (1967) and 32 (1968), respectively, but with the two-time fourth places, the entry into the Bundesliga promotion round was missed.

After the 1969/70 season, under coach Erich Gehbauer , the Mainz team finished 12th, and after a total of 285 league and five DFB Cup games in the jersey of the zero five, Storck ended his career after eleven rounds.
