career

Mainz 05, 1963 to 1970

After the last year of the old league system with the regional top leagues as a power peak in 1962/63, joined goalkeeper Kurt Planitzer from the FVgg Kastel 06 to Mainz 5. The zero five were of the 1963-64 season in the newly introduced second division Regionalliga Southwest classified been. With the black and yellow team from the sports field “In der Witz”, Planitzer had gained experience as a field player for a long time before he made a name for himself as a goalkeeper and accepted the offer from the contract players' camp and switched to the Rhine. In the debut year of the second-rate Regionalliga-Südwest, Planitzer and his new team-mates took fourth place and had played 13 league games in the 20-team under coach Heinz Baas . In addition to the newcomer from Kastel, Günter Dutine, Kurt Sauer and, from his own 05er reserve, the other goalkeeper Dieter Rauch, joined the team from the Bruchweg Stadium. In round operation, Planitzer and Rauch fought an ambitious duel to succeed Horst-Dieter Strich in the case of the zero five, as he had moved to the "Betzenberg" for 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga . From his second year at Mainz, 1964/65, Planitzer was the undisputed number one; he was in goal in all 34 association games and also scored the Mainz consolation goal on May 9, 1965 in the 1: 4 away defeat at BSC Oppau.

The sporting highlight this season was the excellent performance in the cup. First, the zero fives prevailed in the southwest against Eintracht Bad Kreuznach (3: 1), Hassia Bingen (6: 2), SV Hildburg Elkenroth (4: 1) and with a 4: 0 win at TuS Neuendorf in the fourth round and thus moved into the DFB Cup . In January and February 1965 they eliminated two Bundesliga clubs in the first two rounds. On January 16, Werder Bremen came to Mainz as leaders of the Bundesliga with 23:13 points and were defeated 1-0 in front of 12,000 spectators. Bremen managed to win the German championship at the end of the round . The fact that Mainz was able to keep the "zero" in the games against Neuendorf and especially against Bremen was a success on the defensive, where goalkeeper Planitzer, in conjunction with defenders like Helmut Müllges , Heinz Wassermann and Carlo Storck, did their job with distinction. On February 6th, the red-whites wrestled a 2-2 draw after extra time from TSV 1860 Munich under coach Max Merkel in front of 20,000 spectators. A fortnight later, on February 17th, they even managed a 2-1 away win in the stadium on Grünwalder Strasse . The European Cup finalist from Munich competed in the attack with Alfred Heiß , Hans Rebele , Rudi Brunnenmeier , Peter Grosser and Rudolf Steiner . More like the intermittent 1: 1 equalizer from goal scorer Brunnenmeier in the 27th minute, the "lions" did not succeed against the Mainz defense group around goalkeeper Planitzer. In the quarter-finals on February 27, the Mainz team were able to defy 1. FC Nürnberg in front of 24,000 spectators until the second half, before the “club” prevailed 3-0 in the second 45 minutes. After 22 Bundesliga games, the Franconians were in fourth place with 27:17 points, tied with second and third place, and traveled to Rheinhessen. Planitzer had to assert itself primarily against the attacking art of the "Club" strikers Manfred Greif , Rolf Wüthrich , Heinz Strehl , Tasso Wild and Anton Allemann .

In the third regional league season 1965/66, Planitzer just missed the Bundesliga promotion round with the new playmaker Horst Hülß with third place. A convincing second half of the season with 23: 7 points - there were only two defeats and three draws in addition to ten wins - was not enough in the end to prevent the champions FK Pirmasens and runner-up 1. FC Saarbrücken from entering the promotion round. Constancy on the defensive played a major part in the success of this round, where a well-rehearsed block acted with goalkeeper Planitzer, the defenders Müllges and Wassermann, the outside runners Günther Dutine and Kurt Sauer , as well as in central defense with Gerhard Görlach and Carlo Storck League games only had to answer 39 goals. Planitzer had played all 30 league games. In the two following rounds, Planitzer and colleagues improved the rate of goals against with 35 (1967) and 32 (1968), but twice failed to reach the goal of the promotion round with fourth places.

When in the 1969/70 season with the former Weisenau successful coach Erich Gehbauer only the goal of staying up could be implemented, Kurt Planitzer played another 24 rounds at the age of 33. After seven regional rounds with a total of 191 league appearances, he ended his higher-class career in the summer of 1970. The two young goalkeeper talents Wolfgang Kneib and Wolfgang Orben succeeded him from 1970/71.

The reliable goalkeeper routinier joined the old Mainz local rival SV Weisenau in the Southwest Amateur League for the 1970/71 season .
