Horst-Dieter Strich (born April 8, 1941 in Berlin ) is a former German football goalkeeper and coach . Today he is the head of a goalkeeping school. His son Denni was also a professional soccer player and is now the Marketing Director of the German Football Association (DFB).

Player career

Horst-Dieter Strich, 1965

After Horst-Dieter Strich was already guarding the goal of Wormatia Worms as a youth player , his career began in the men's division with the then top division club. In 1962 there was then a change to the league competitor 1. FSV Mainz 05 , which could not qualify for the 1963 introduced Bundesliga as the new top German division. Strich left Mainz to go to 1. FC Kaiserslautern , which had successfully qualified. At FCK he had an equal competitor in Wolfgang Schnarr for the place in the goal of the Palatinate. A war of nerves developed between the two goalkeepers, as a result of which Strich left the club in 1965. Even if he even had a little more playing time than Schnarr during this time, he did not achieve his goal of becoming the sole goalkeeper.

Strich signed a contract with the Dutch first division club PSV Eindhoven and went back to the Bundesliga for 1. FC Nürnberg a year later . At the “Club” he was unable to prevail against rivals Gyula Tóth and Roland Wabra and only played nine Bundesliga games in 1966/67.

In 1967 he was hired by the southern regional division FC Bayern Hof , where he stayed as a regular goalkeeper for four years. Then (1971) he went back to his footballing homeland, to Wormatia Worms , which at that time competed in the Regionalliga Südwest . In 1972/73 he let his career at SV Seeheim end.

Coaching career

In January 1981 Horst-Dieter Strich took over the training management at Wormatia, which now played in the second division. Due to the establishment of a single-track 2nd league, ten teams from the southern season had to go into the third division in the 1980/81 season. Worms, however, qualified with a 12th place in the table. Coach Strich was replaced by Slobodan Jovanovic at the end of the season , as the former lacked a coaching license.

For the 1981/82 season he was coach at the upper division VfR Bürstadt , who had previously been relegated from the second division due to the league reform mentioned above. Under his aegis, the club from southern Hesse became Hessen champions in 1983 and 1984 and rose again to the 2nd Bundesliga after they prevailed in the promotion round (1984).

This was followed by an engagement at 1. FSV Mainz 05 , another former club Strichs during active times. In his last season as coach of the Southwest Oberligisten, he made it to the second division with the team ( 1987/88 ).

After four years in Mainz, he was the second time coach of Wormatia Worms , which now also competed in the Oberliga Südwest . He was released in April 1989.

Other coaching stations were Eintracht Trier and TSG Pfeddersheim (from the Pfeddersheim district of Worms ) in the early 1990s .

In 1997 he became a coach at VfR Bürstadt for the second time . However, this engagement was far less successful. The club was relegated in 1999 from the Oberliga Hessen , whereupon Strich was dismissed. However, he had to make do with a reduced squad after the winter break after more than half of the players had left the club due to financial difficulties.

Others

Horst-Dieter Strich has been heading the Strich goalkeeping school since May 2000 , where he offers goalkeeping training for children and young people.
