Rolf Wüthrich (born September 4, 1938 - † June 15, 2004 ) was a Swiss football player . The half-forward won the championship with Servette FC Genève under coach Jean Snella in the 1961/62 season and played a season with 1. FC Nuremberg in the Bundesliga in 1964/65 .

Career

In season 1957/58 the young offensive player with the won FC Zurich the championship in the National League B, an increase in National League A in. He then played three rounds with Zurich in the first division; in the 1960/61 season he took third place with players like Bruno Brizzi , Werner Leimgruber and ex-Stuttgart Erwin Waldner . For the 1961/62 season he moved to Servette FC Genève for a year . With Servette he won the Swiss football championship in 1961/62 , with attacker Jacques Fatton taking the top scorer's crown with 25 goals. He then played two seasons for Grasshopper Club Zurich . He was in the 1963 Cup final with GC , but it was lost 2-0 to FC Basel on April 15 in Bern. For the 1964/65 season he moved to Germany for 1. FC Nürnberg . The club played in the Bundesliga and was looked after by coach Gunther Baumann and, in addition to Wüthrich, also signed his compatriot Anton Allemann , Manfred Greif and Ludwig Müller under new contracts. Wüthrich made his debut in German professional football on matchday 6 in the 2-0 defeat against TSV 1860 Munich . He formed the attack of the "club" on half right with Greif, Heinz Strehl , Tasso Wild and Kurt Dachlauer . He scored his first goal on December 5, 1964 in a 3-0 home win against defending champions 1. FC Köln. In the course of the season he came to a total of 14 missions and Nuremberg took sixth place. Since coach Baumann was not convinced of the Swiss, he said about him “I wouldn't have spent any marks on him!” He returned to Switzerland after the season. There Wüthrich played three seasons for BSC Young Boys and one year for FC Luzern .

National team

For the Swiss national soccer team , he played thirteen games between 1960 and 1965, in which he scored two goals. He belonged to the teams in the qualification for the 1962 World Cup against Belgium and Sweden and was also active in the playoff against Sweden on November 12, 1961 in Berlin. At the side of Karl Elsener, Heinz Schneiter , Eugen Meier , Ely Tacchella , Charles Antennen, Norbert Eschmann and Anton Allemann, Switzerland prevailed 2-1 and was thus a participant in the World Cup tournament in Chile. In 1962 he was part of the selection that took part in the World Cup in Chile , but was eliminated after three defeats in the preliminary round. Wüthrich completed all three World Cup group games in Chile under coach Karl Rappan at the side of teammates like Karl Elsener , Anton Allemann , Charles Antenen and Roger Vonlanthen and scored one goal: Chile (1: 3, one goal); Germany (1: 2); Italy (0: 3).
