Carlos Keller Rueff

Carlos Keller Rueff (born January 3, 1897 in Concepción ; † February 28, 1974 in San Felipe ) was a journalist , writer and chief ideologist of the National Socialist Movement in Chile .

Life

Carlos Keller Rueff was born to parents of German origin, Carlos Keller Hollausch and his wife Ema Rueff Henne, in Concepción. The family moved to Leipzig in Germany in 1912 , where Keller studied law , economics and social sciences in Berlin , Bonn and Würzburg after graduating from school , and in 1921 obtained his doctorate in juris et rerum politicarum. During his studies he also made the acquaintance of Oswald Spengler , who had a formative influence on him.

In 1921 Keller returned to Chile and taught sociology and economics at the Universidad de Concepción . In 1927 he received a professorship at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago , a year later he was appointed director of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences . Keller work in the Statistical Office , of which he became head in 1932.

In 1933 he had to resign because he had joined the National Socialist movement in Chile in 1932. He worked for the daily newspapers La Hora and La Nación from 1934 to 1938 and was the publisher and editor-in-chief of Acción Chilena . Carlos Keller ran unsuccessfully in the parliamentary elections of 1937 in the Osorno constituency . In 1938 he took part in a coup attempt by the Chilean Nazis. In 1942 he was again commissioned with statistical surveys, but had to give up the office after the unexpected death of President Juan Antonio Ríos Morales . After that, only publications on geographical and historical topics will follow.

Carlos Keller Rueff died on February 28, 1974 at the age of 77 of hardened arteries in San Felipe.
