Carlton Holmes (born August 21, 1964 in Michigan ) is an American jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Holmes, who grew up in Seattle and Albuquerque, received his first musical training at the age of eight. After playing the trumpet and then drums, he began taking piano lessons at the age of eleven. At the age of 15, Carlton was already playing professionally. In his youth he received several awards as best soloist in the competitions of the All State Jazz Band . In 1986 he moved to New York City to study music at the Manhattan School of Music . Since then he has played on the city's jazz scene with musicians such as Max Roach , Michael Carvin , Branford Marsalis , Donald Byrd and Dianne Reeves . She made her first recordings with Bill Kirchner in 1990 ( Trance Dance ), and also with Michael Carvin ( Each One Teach One ), Carola Gray, Carlos Garnett ( Resurgence , 1995), Cindy Blackman ( Works On Canvas , 1999), Dan Faulk and Dion Parson & 21st Century Band.

Furthermore, Holmes acted as accompanist for singers such as Teraesa Vinson, Cecilia Smith, Erika Matsuo , Regina Belle , Jaine Rogers, Mansur Scott and Alexis Morrast; he also worked for Ronny Jordan . In 2009 he recorded the album You Me and I under his own name . In Germany, Holmes first appeared with a solo program in 2014 at the INNtöne Jazz Festival and in 2016 in Passau; There he played in a duet with trombonist Paul Zauner in 2019 . In the field of jazz, according to Tom Lord , he was involved in 39 recording sessions between 1990 and 2016, most recently at Howard Johnson & Gravity ( testimony ).
