Carmine Caridi

Carmine Caridi (born January 23, 1934 in New York City , New York - † May 28, 2019 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Career

Caridi played his most famous role as Carmine Rosato in The Godfather - Part II . In the godfather part III he played Albert Volpe.

Producer Robert Evans wrote in his 1994 memoir The Kid Stays in the Picture that Francis Ford Coppola's Caridi was initially intended as Sonny Corleone . However, Evans insisted that James Caan play the role. On television he played Dan Valenti in the series Phyllis between 1976 and 1977. Caridi played Detective Vince Gotelli in the television series NYPD Blue between 1993 and 1999.

Exclusion from the AMPAS

On February 3, 2004, Caridi was expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for violating copyright laws. Until the producer Harvey Weinstein was excluded in October 2017, Caridi was the first and only Academy member ever to be excluded.
