Carpe Noctem is a music band from Jena . The five musicians, some of them classically trained, present an original synthesis of classical and heavy metal on stage . You yourself describe the mostly instrumental music of your compositions as string metal .

history

In 2007 three members of the Jena Youth Orchestra came together as the Trio Altitudo . With two cellos - Cornelius Wagner and Martin Streicher - and a double bass, they experimented with their own arrangements of well-known metal pieces. Later Daniel Cebulla joined as percussionist and Friedrich Busch as violinist. After the first rehearsals, the name Carpe Noctem ( Latin for use the night ) was found. The long and unsteady development phase finally ended in 2009 with the arrival of Sascha Dobschal as the new bass player. The group had put together their first long-term line-up. They made their first public appearance in Jena. In 2010 the first CD Obscuritas was produced in the home studio. In 2011 the first appearances outside of Thuringia followed. The second CD, Allegro con fuoco, is being produced in the Allorange Music Studio in Ronneburg.

In 2012 she performed at various festivals, including the open-air festivals in Bittstädt and Gößnitz and the L * Abore in Hauptmannsgrün . In the Theaterhaus Jena , the band created all of the stage music for the production Hypertroja Wonderland . They looked for and found cooperation with other bands, appeared as the opening act at concerts by NEMO and Last Instance as well as at the subway to Sally fan meeting . A three-week trip to Amsterdam provided the opportunity for street music and stage performances in Holland's cities. In collaboration with students from the SAE Institute in Amsterdam, several titles were recorded in the institute's recording studios.

In 2013 the band arranged their pieces for orchestra, supported by Martin Lentz, the conductor of the Jena Youth Orchestra. After long rehearsals, an orchestral trip to Denmark followed, including a performance in the Aarhus concert hall . The program was first performed in Germany in June. Another trip to Holland followed in the summer, again with street music and performances in the cities and recordings at the SAE Institute. At the end of the year, the band took third place in the WDR's Most Popular Street Musician competition in 2013 .

In spring 2014 Carpe Noctem toured several European cities in order to become known outside of Germany. In St. Gallen they played on the street music festival. At the 11th International Street Music Festival in Ludwigsburg , Carpe Noctem won second prize in the audience vote. At the winner's concert they played in front of several thousand spectators on the main stage. A trip to Russia followed for a performance at the biker festival in Suzdal . At the Festival Mediaval in Selb , the group won the Golden Dwarf Newcomer Prize .

The band was able to repeat the success of the previous year at the street music festival in Ludwigsburg in 2015: again they won the second audience award. Furthermore, the orchestra program was expanded and performed with the JSO-Bremen in the Sendesaal Bremen. Martin Lentz was in charge again.

In December 2014 the band announced that they had started work on a new album called Schattensaiten . After almost two years, the result was published in November 2016. This year, too, the orchestra program was expanded and re-performed. This time under the conductor Benedikt Stumpf and with the newly founded Symphonic Rock Orchestra Mainz.

At the beginning of 2017, Sascha and Daniel left for private reasons. After a few months Sash Zakosarenko on bass and Martin von Knarsn on drums could be won. With the two newcomers, the live concept for acoustic performances also changed. Sash Zakosarenko now also played the double bass, Martin von Knarsn did without the cajon and instead built "Das Instrument" himself - a small, portable drum set based on a suitcase.
