The Carrozzeria Emilio Castagna was an Italian manufacturer of automobile bodies based in Milan . The owners had family relationships with the traditional Carrozzeria Castagna , which had been the largest Italian car body manufacturer before the Second World War, but both companies were legally and organizationally independent.

Company history

The founder of the company was Emilio Castagna. Together with his older brother Ettore, Emilio had been running the Milanese car body manufacturer Carrozzeria Carlo Castagna since 1919, which their father had formed in 1901 from a merger of several previously independent companies. Carlo Castagna produced exclusive automobile bodies for luxury vehicles, which were primarily sold to the Italian aristocracy and wealthy customers; the company also delivered vehicles to the Vatican. While Ettore Castagna was responsible for the business side, Emilio was responsible for the design of the vehicles since the 1920s.

In 1940 Emilio Castagna left the family business and started his own business in Milan. The Carrozzeria Emilio Castagna moved into a workshop that had been used by the Carrozzeria Torinese until 1930 . During the Second World War, the company primarily carried out repair work. It was also involved in the development of the Trottolina three-wheeled mini car , for which Castagna was to press the bodies. Series production of the Trottolina, however, did not materialize. After the end of the war, Emilio Castagna designed and built special bodies for a few years, most of which were based on the Fiat 1100 . In many cases it was coupe and convertible versions that Fiat did not offer at the factory. In 1960 car body production ended; the company was dissolved.

The company Castagna Milano has been using the traditional name again since 1994 . There is no legal relationship with Carrozzeria Carlo Castagna or Emilio Castagna.
