The Carrozzeria Introzzi was an Italian body construction company that manufactured superstructures for luxury vehicles up to the Second World War, and later also variations of various Fiat models. A son of the last owner established the rival company Officine Introzzi in 1960 , which was formally and organizationally independent.

Company history

The Carrozzeria Introzzi was founded in 1890. The company was based in the Lombard city of Como . Initially, it made trailers for agricultural purposes, which soon gained a reputation for high quality. As early as the beginning of the 20th century, some customers had Introzzi produce superstructures for automobiles. After the end of World War I , Introzzi focused almost entirely on automobile bodies, with the company showing great versatility. In the years between the wars, Introzzi produced both luxury bodies for passenger cars on Lancia chassis (especially Lambda ) and commercial vehicle superstructures for Fiat chassis.

After the end of the Second World War , Giovanni Introzzi, the son of the company founder, put the focus back on the field of commercial vehicle bodies; Occasionally, however, production cars such as the Fiat 600 were also refined with external attachments. The superstructures were entirely handcrafted. Giovanni Introzzi's son Giuseppe, who advocated a switch to mechanical production methods but was unable to implement his ideas, left the company in 1960 and founded an independent company in the neighboring municipality of Lipomo , which was called Officine Introzzi. Giovanni Introzzi continued to run the Carrozzeria Introzzi for a few years, but had to cease operations around 1965.
