The Fontana Pietro SpA (in short: Fontana ) is an Italian supplier to the automotive industry . The company develops and builds individual components on behalf of larger manufacturers, but now also designs and manufactures complete bodies for luxury vehicles. A close business relationship with Ferrari has existed since 2000 .

Company history

Fontana, based in the Lombardy municipality of Calolziocorte , is a family business that is now in the third generation. It was founded in 1956 by Pietro Fontana, who gave the company its name. In the first few decades, Fontana manufactured press plates for a variety of purposes, including tractors , camping accessories and household appliances . After Pietro Fontana's sons Marco and Walter took over the company at the beginning of the 1970s, the focus of activities shifted to the design and manufacture of components for the automotive industry. The first clients came from Germany: BMW , Daimler-Benz , Opel and the Volkswagen Group initially had small parts of their series vehicles designed and manufactured by Fontana. In the 1990s, the company also gained customers in the People's Republic of China , where it works for Shanghai Volkswagen , among others , and in Russia .

In the early 2000s, Fontana began a close business relationship with the sports car manufacturer Ferrari. Initially, Fontana made the interiors of some Ferraris. A little later, Fontana took over the production of individual body components, and from 2006 the company has been producing complete body shells for Ferrari's production sports cars. The models whose bodies were created or are being built at Fontana include the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano (from 2006), the California (from 2008), the 458 (from 2009) and the FF . Fontana also designed the bodies for the McLaren street sports cars ( 12C and 650S ) and the body of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan . The company's customers also include Ford , General Motors , Jaguar and Renault .

The company has been part of the Fontana Group for several years. Since 2003 and 2011, it has also had subsidiaries in Curtea de Argeș ( Romania ) and Istanbul ( Turkey ).
