Carrozzeria Fontana, Pietroboni & C. , shortly Carrozzeria Fontana e Pietroboni or just Fontana e Pietroboni , is a former Italian Coachbuilder from Bassano del Grappa in the province of Vicenza in the region Veneto . It is mainly known for its high-quality bodies on upper class - chassis from the early 1930s.

Company history

The company was formed in 1929 from the merger of the respected Carrozzeria Baldassarre Fontana with Carrozzeria Pietroboni : The three sons of Baldassarre Fontana, who died in 1908, Giovanni Battista, Melchiorre and Domenico, had built new, larger premises that were created through the merger with Pietro Pietroboni's company should be used more. Together they used the brand name Fontana e Pietroboni .

The merger led to rapid results: At the Motor Show of Milan was Fontana e Pietroboni with a spider on the basis of a 525 Fiat represented and each with a limousine and a Faux Cabriolet based on an Alfa Romeo 6C 1750. They provided to flower, the in view of the unfavorable general economic development, however, did not last long. Other significant bodies were based on the Bianchi S5 , the Lancia Artena and cheaper models such as the Fiat 508 Balilla . The vehicles were still of high quality and the brand reputation was good, but despite lower prices, the number of units could not be increased during the global economic crisis ; they continued to fall in the second half of the 1930s.

After around ten years of working together, the members of the Fontana family decided to withdraw completely from the company, in 1938 or 1939, depending on the source; Pietro Pietrobona continued to work alone after the split. After the Second World War , he concentrated on bus bodies until the 1950s , before ceasing operations around 1960.
