The Carrozzeria Boneschi was an Italian car body manufacturer that today only exists as a brand.
Lancia bodies
The company was founded in 1919 by Giovanni Boneschi († 1946) and has always been based in Cambiago .
The body shop experienced greater success from 1922 when it began supplying the Milan-based Lancia dealer Enrico Minetti with bodies for the Lambda that were manufactured exclusively for its branches .
Apart from a short period between 1924 and 1926, during which Boneschi mainly worked for the new company Citroën Italia, Boneschi mainly specialized in Lancia vehicles, both as one-off as well as in small series. In addition to the aforementioned Lamda, these included the Dilambda , Astura and Aprilia models . The Italian state was the buyer of Astura sedans of the "Ministeriale" version. There was even a four-door full convertible variant.
Post-war period and end of car body construction
Boneschi's facilities fell victim to Allied bombs in World War II . It was rebuilt as early as 1946, but Giovanni Boneschi died in the same year. The company was now managed by Bruno Pezzaglia , who was in contact with Alfa Romeo .
Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8C Monterosa
In 1948 Boneschi supplied a convertible body on a prototype chassis of the Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8C Monterosa . The vehicle only had a hinted fender line on the flank and is therefore a representative of the pontoon body that was fashionable at the time. A swivel mechanism was provided to remove the rear wheel cover. There are photos of the vehicle with different details, so that two examples may have been built. Carrozzeria Touring Vignale also provided designs for closed versions . Unfortunately, there was no mass production of this technically interesting luxury car with a V8 engine in the rear.
In addition to the Aurelia , representative “Ministeriale” limousines for the Italian state (and probably also for the Vatican ) based on the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 T (1948) were also built. This car also appeared in the Alfa Romeo sales brochure. Boneschi also body the Alfa Romeo 1900 and the Giulietta as a station wagon "Giardinetta" (1957) and the Alfa Romeo 2600 Coupés and Cabriolets (1960). In collaboration with the designer Rodolfo Bonetto (1929–1991), a very elegant Spider, the Lancia Flaminia , was created in 1962 .
Takeovers and commercial vehicle construction
Shortly afterwards, the company was taken over by the Fiat subsidiary Carrozzeria Savio in Moncalieri and henceforth concentrated on the construction of bus and commercial vehicle bodies , mainly on Fiat, OM and Iveco chassis. In addition, special vehicles for ambulance transports and armored cash transporters were created .
In 1988 Boneschi showed the Lancia Thema Gazzella study . In 2006 the systems in Cambiago were sold. Boneschi now only exists as a brand name of the Savio Group, which in turn belongs to Omnia Holding .
Trivia
Fernandel is driven in his role of the same name as Reverend Don Camillo (1961) in an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500T Ministeriale von Boneschi.
