The Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera is an Italian design studio and Coachbuilder designs the automobile bodies and manufactures prototypes and small series. The name of the company refers to the historic Carrozzeria Touring , which existed from 1926 to 1966; however, there is no legal or organizational connection to this company.
Company history
The Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera was founded in 2006. It is based in Terrazzano di Rho in the metropolitan city of Milan . The company is part of the Zeta Europe BV Group , registered in the Netherlands , which in turn belongs to the Belgian entrepreneurial family D'Ieteren .
brand names
The company picks up on two classic terms from Italian automotive history: Carrozzeria Touring (without the addition of Superleggera), founded by Felice Bianchi Anderloni and Gaetano Ponzoni in 1926, was one of the best-known Italian bodywork companies until the 1960s; Their customers included national and international automobile manufacturers such as Alfa Romeo , Lancia , Aston Martin , Bristol , and Jensen . As superleggera (German as: super light) is called a developed in the 1930s by the Carrozzeria Touring type of car bodies, were mounted on the aluminum sheet metal parts on a lightweight three-dimensional framework of metal profiles of various form and strength. After Tourings went bankrupt in 1966, the business was transferred to Carrozzeria Marazzi . The brand names remained unused until Zeta Europe BV revived them in 2006 for their newly founded company.
In 2008, a legal dispute broke out in Frankfurt am Main with Touring Superleggera Markenverwaltungsgesellschaft AG, which had been founded a year earlier and is based in Küsnacht , Switzerland , which accused Zeta Europe BV of illegally using the Touring and Superleggera brands and sued for omission. Nothing is known about the outcome of the legal dispute. In 2010 the Markenverwertungsgesellschaft was dissolved due to bankruptcy.
Areas of activity
The Belgian Louis de Fabribeckers have been Head of Design at Touring Superleggera since the company was founded . In addition to designing car bodies, the company's activities also include building prototypes. Touring Superleggera has been exhibiting design studies on a regular basis since 2008. Most of them make their debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Some remain individual pieces, others such as the Touring Superleggera Disco Volante or the Touring Sciàdipersia are produced in small series on customer request. In this respect, Touring Superleggera sees itself as a continuation of the traditional Carrozzieri, which supplied individual bodies for series vehicles up into the 1960s. Works like Pininfarina and Zagato also pursue similar concepts .
