Carsten Feller

Carsten Feller (born December 16, 1966 in Fritzlar ) is a German university manager, ministerial official and politician ( SPD ). Since the beginning of March 2020 he has been State Secretary for Science and Universities and Head of Office in the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society .

Life

After graduating from high school , Feller completed basic military service in the Bundeswehr from 1986 to 1988 . This is followed by a master’s degree in history , political science and public law at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and the University of Lisbon from 1988 to 1995 . During this period of study, he was a journalist from 1993 to 1995 in the press and public relations department of the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. After completing his studies, he was project manager at the Transferzentrum Mittelhessen , a joint institution of the Justus Liebig University of Gießen, the Philipps University of Marburg and the University of Applied Sciences Gießen-Friedberg , until 1996 , before he founded a PR agency and was the spokesman for the founder and Innovation Center Giessen was active.

In 1997 Feller took over the management of the department for communication and university development at the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences . In 1998 he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany and became a member of the Social Democratic Community for Local Politics in Thuringia . From 1999 to 2003 he acted as district chairman of the Jusos Schmalkalden-Meiningen , from 1999 to 2006 as a member of the board of the SPD district association Schmalkalden-Meiningen. In 2003 he was a founding member of the Thuringia Science Forum and a board member until 2010 , and from 2004 to 2006 chairman of the Federal Association of University Press . On May 1, 2007 he became Chancellor of the University of Fulda . From 2007 to 2011 he was a volunteer spokesman for the Hessian FH chancellor. Between 2007 and 2009, he completed a Master of Business Administration degree in university and science management at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences . In 2011 he left the University of Applied Sciences in Fulda and became head of the Universities, State University Planning, New University Management department in the Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art . In 2014 he moved to the Ministry for Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg , where he headed the Science and Research Department and acted as Deputy State Secretary.

At the beginning of March 2020, as part of the formation of the Ramelow II cabinet, Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee appointed Feller State Secretary for Science and Universities and Head of Office of the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society . He succeeded Markus Hoppe , who had been put into temporary retirement .

Feller is married and has two children.
