Carsten Hennig

Carsten Hennig (born July 1, 1967 in Dresden ) is a German composer.

Life

Carsten Hennig received piano and organ lessons at the age of 15. After graduating from high school and working as an educational assistant and music teacher in a Dresden kindergarten, he studied school music at the Liszt School of Music Weimar , film music at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy and composition with Adriana Hölszky at the Rostock University of Music and Theater and at the Mozarteum Salzburg . In 2004 he received a scholarship from the Villa Massimo in Rome and in 2007 for the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles as well as working scholarships from the state of Mecklenburg / Western Pomerania (2001) and Saxony (2008). He received the 2nd prize at the International Composition Competition Luxembourg in 2002 for "Excursion to Sing-Sing in 3 Groups with Rotations, 2006 the BMW Composition Prize of musica viva for the orchestral piece Massen and in 2007 the 1st prize at the International Composition Competition of the State of Mecklenburg / Western Pomerania , the first prize of the international composition competition "Brandenburger Biennale" 2010 and - in the same year - the composition prize of the Hans and Gertrud Zender Foundation.

Since 2009 he has been artistic director of the Dresden ensemble for contemporary music "El perro andaluz", which in 2011 received the art sponsorship award of the state capital of Dresden.

His compositions have been performed at the following festivals, among others: Gaudeamus (Amsterdam), Festival Manca (Nice), ArtGenda (Stockholm), Munich Biennale , HörenSagen (Münster), Musica Viva (Munich), Dresden Days of Contemporary Music , Suntory Festival (Tokyo ), Ultrasound (Berlin). All of his works are published by Editions Musicales Européennes (Paris). From 2008 to 2009 he was the project coordinator of the KlangNetz Dresden .

Carsten Hennig lives as a freelance composer in Dresden. He is teaching at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden.
