Carsten Thurau (born April 18, 1967 in Munich ) is a German journalist.

Life

After graduating from high school in Trier in 1987 and completing military service , Thurau worked as a volunteer for the daily newspaper Trierischer Volksfreund in 1989/90 . From 1992 to 1998 he studied economics at the University of Trier , which he graduated with a diploma. During this time he worked from 1992 to 1994 as an employee at the radio station of Südwestfunk . He has been editor of ZDF since 1995 .

During his time at ZDF, Thurau worked as a reporter in the main newsroom ( today , tonight ), moderated the program This Week and reported on current events - including from abroad. From 1999 to 2001 he was editor and reporter in the main foreign affairs department and presenter of the program Today - in Europe . He then moved from 2001 to 2003 back into the general editorial office and reported in international missions including those from the United States , from the Balkans and from the crisis and war zones in the Middle and the Middle East . From October 1, 2003 he was director of the ZDF studio in Rio de Janeiro . From 2010 to 2016, Thurau headed the ZDF regional studio Saxony in Dresden . Since September 1, 2016 he has been back in Mainz as head of duty in the main news department.
