Casey Cagle (born January 12, 1966 in Hall County , Georgia ) is an American politician and was the 11th lieutenant governor of the state of Georgia from January 2007 to January 2019  .

Casey Cagle attended Gainesville College and graduated from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro . He was elected to the Georgia Senate in 1994 at the age of 28 and served as a Senator from 1995 to 2005. Cagle was elected lieutenant governor of Georgia on November 7, 2006 alongside Governor Sonny Perdue . He is the first Republican in the history of the state to hold this office. Even under Perdue's successor Nathan Deal , who took over the post of governor in January 2011, Cagle continues to serve as lieutenant governor. In 2014 he was re-elected. In the next election in 2018, he decided not to run again for the office of lieutenant governor and instead sought a nomination as a Republican candidate in the gubernatorial election. In primary, however, he was defeated by Brian Kemp , the previous Secretary of State of Georgia.

Cagle is married and has three sons.
