Cast Nemra

Casten Nemra (born July 29, 1971 ) was President of the Marshall Islands from January 11 to January 28, 2016 .

Life

Nemra studied in Portland and has been with the Treasury Department since 2001. In March 2007 he was appointed Chief Secretary (Chief Secretary) appointed. He was the head of the civil service and chairman of the working group on natural disasters. In the parliamentary elections in November 2015, he received 455 votes and won one of the two seats for Jaluit in Nitijeļā . In the elections, the government of Christopher Loeak suffered heavy losses, several cabinet members, the speaker and his deputy lost their parliamentary seats. However, the opposition KEA party did not get a majority, but was dependent on the support of Solid Six, a group of young MPs. The opposition succeeded in gaining a majority in the election of the parliamentary president and his deputy, but in the election for president the Solid Six Casten Nemra surprisingly prevailed against the opposition candidate Alvin Jacklick with 17 to 16 votes. Nemra and his cabinet were sworn in on January 11th. Within a few days of taking office, members of the opposition requested a vote of no confidence. On January 26th, the vote of no confidence was passed with 21 votes against 12. Former Education Minister Hilda Heine was elected as his successor the following day .
