Nitijeḷā ( Marshallese ) is the Parliament of the Marshall Islands . The seat of the Nitijeḷā is in the capital Majuro .

33 members of parliament are elected for four years each. The territory of the Marshall Islands is divided into 24 electoral districts. Depending on their importance, these send one to five delegates to the Nitijeḷā, with the Majuro Atoll sending the most delegates with five. The MPs elect the President of the Marshall Islands , as happened when the MPs elected Hilda Heine as President on January 28, 2016 with 24 out of 33 votes. In the current legislative period, 33 independents sit in the Parliament of the Marshall Islands, three of whom are women, which corresponds to a female quota of 9.1%.

In addition to the Nitijeḷā, there is a council of tribal leaders ( Council of Iroij ) with an advisory function.
