Hilda Heine
Hilda Cathy Heine (born April 6, 1951 in Jaluit ) is a teacher and politician . She was President of the Marshall Islands from 2016 to 2020 . She was the first woman in this office, also the first female Marshallese doctorate and one of three women in the Marshallese parliament.
Life
Heine studied at the University of Oregon , the University of Hawaii in Mānoa , Honolulu , and the University of Southern California . From 1975 to 1982 she worked as a teacher at Marshall Islands High School . In 2000 she founded the women's rights organization Women United Together Marshall Islands . She was appointed Minister of Education. As the successor to Casten Nemra , Heine was President of the Marshall Islands from January 28, 2016. David Kabua , who was elected by Parliament on January 6th, is your successor in office.
The US American Time magazine listed her in the article “Meet 15 Women Leading the Fight Against Climate Change” in 2019 as one of 15 women who lead the fight against climate change.

Heine is married to Thomas Kijiner and has four children.
