Cathine ( INN ), also norpseudoephedrine , pseudonorephedrine , β-hydroxyamphetamine, is an alkaloid , chemically an amphetamine , and is one of the stimulants . Cathine is one of the alkaloids in the drug Kath , which is mainly found in the high altitudes of East African countries and on the Arabian Peninsula . The active ingredient is obtained, among other things, from the leaves of the Kath shrub that occurs, and partly from the tips of branches with leaves.

Medicines containing cathine are sold as anorectics (appetite suppressants). These require a prescription and may only be used for a few weeks.

Vita-Slim drops and X-112 were withdrawn from the European market as medicinal products . After the name change from norpseudoephedrine to cathine, a drug was produced under the name ALVALIN solution .

The fabric is on the prohibited list of the IOC , the limit is about 5 ug / ml in urine.

Legal status

In Germany, cathine is classified as a marketable and prescription narcotic drug by the Narcotics Act, handling it without a permit or prescription is a criminal offense.
