Catholica Unio

The Catholica Unio is a Roman Catholic aid and information agency. It is mainly committed to the Christians united with the Roman Catholic Church (Eastern Catholic Churches) in the Middle East , Northeast Africa , India and Eastern Europe . The organization was founded by the German Benedictine monk Augustinus von Galen in 1924 as the Papal Eastern Church Organization . The General President has been the Archbishop of Salzburg , Alois Kothgasser , since 2010 .

tasks

The work of the organization is primarily oriented towards the support of the Christian Orient . For example, the United Eastern Churches in Ethiopia , Southwest India and Eastern Europe are being helped. Aid received by uniate Eastern Church immigrant communities in North America , South America and Australia . Practical help is offered, among other things, for the formation of the clergy and for the laity , and the establishment of Christian institutions and churches is supported. In addition to the relief organization, this aid is also made possible by the Holy See .

Additional support is provided with the Roman Curia , the Congregation for the Oriental Churches . In order to optimize the necessary aid, the aid organization takes part in the "Conference of Catholic Eastern Church Aid Organizations " ROACO every six months . The social, community cooperation between the Eastern Catholic Church Reliefs and the organization specifically includes equipping clinics in Egypt , implementing training programs for impoverished women in Eritrea , renovating schools in Ethiopia, setting up hospice facilities for the terminally ill in India , and supporting community centers in Lebanon and the renovation of urban facilities in Palestine .

Humanitarian aid

When it comes to the organization's humanitarian aid, only the need of the other person plays a role, while ethnicity , religious affiliation or citizenship does not.

Ecumenism and collaboration

In Christian ecumenism , the organization works closely with other Christian churches in the field of drawing up and implementing aid programs. For example, development programs are worked out with non-Christians.

An information medium of the Catholica Unio Internationalis is the bimonthly magazine " Der Christliche Osten " in Würzburg . In the USA the aid organization publishes the magazine “ One ”.

In Austria, the Catholica Unio has been called the Andreas-Petrus-Werk since 1999 .
