biography

Born in the New York borough of Bronx , Catherine made her early acquaintance with show business when she appeared on the children's television program Children's Hour . She later performed as a singer and dancer in the USO troop support program and toured with various big bands, including Sammy Kaye . In 1953 she received her first recording contract with Coral Records in New York, where she recorded four single records under "Cathy Carr And Her Boyfriends". Her first record successes she had with the small record company Fraternity Records in Cincinnati , Ohio , where she was under contract from 1955 to 1957. With the title Ivory Tower , she rose to number two in the Hot 100 of the US music magazine Billbord in 1956 and in the same year she had a second song in the Hot 100 with Heart Hideaway (67th). Then Carr released her records again in New York for four years on Roulette Records . There, too, she had two Hot 100 successes with the titles First Anniversary (42nd) and I'm Gonna Change Him (63rd), both of which came on the market in 1959. The singles, which were later produced by the record companies Smash and Laurie Records , were not sales successes. The A-side of her last single from 1967 was titled When You Come Home Again, full of references , as she then retired from the music business. She died in 1988 at the age of 52 in the small town of Fayetteville in New York State .
