Fayetteville is a village in the Town of Manlius in Onondaga County in the state of New York in the United States . The 2018 American Community Survey estimated the population of Fayetteville to be 4,133. Fayetteville is a suburb of Syracuse .

location

Fayetteville is in the east of Onondaga County, about twelve kilometers east of downtown Syracuse. Neighboring towns are Minoa in the north, Kirkville in the northeast, Mycenae in the east, Manlius in the south, Jamesville in the southwest, DeWitt in the west and East Syracuse in the northwest.

Fayetteville is on the Limestone Creek River . Northeast of the village is the Green Lakes State Park . Fayetteville is on New York State Route 5 , an important east-west route in upstate New York. In addition, the New York State Route 257 runs through the place.

history

Snell House

Fayetteville was settled by Joshua Knowlton and Origen Eaton from 1791. A year later, Cyrus Kinne came to the settlement and ran a forge there . The first parish was also set up in 1792. From 1794 the area was within the Township Number Seven , which was later transformed into the Manlius . In 1801 the first pub in Fayetteville was opened in a small log cabin . For a long time the place was known as Manlius Four Corners until it was renamed after a post office was established. On May 6, 1844, Fayetteville was incorporated within the Town of Manlius as a Village.

Fayetteville is part of the Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District . This includes three primary schools from kindergarten to fourth grade, a middle school from grades five to eight and a high school from grades nine to twelve.

In 2018, the American Community Survey estimated the population of Fayetteville to be 4,133. There were 1,727 households and 1,263 families in the city. There were married couples in 86.8 percent of the families, 5.4 percent were single fathers and 7.8 percent of the families were single mothers. 30.6 percent of households had children under the age of 18 living with them, and 45.3 percent of households had people over 60 years of age. Of the population, 93.6 percent were white, 1.7 percent African American , 1.5 percent Asian, and 0.2 percent Native American; 3.3 percent of the population stated several origins. Hispanics or Latinos made up 0.7 percent of the population. 48.2 percent of Fayetteville residents were male and 51.8 percent were female.

In terms of age, the population of Fayetteville was divided into 23.2 percent minors, 4.7 percent between 18 and 24, 21.9 percent between 25 and 44, 30.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 20.2 percent of the population were 65 years of age old or older. The median age was 45.3 years. In 2018, the median income in Fayetteville was $ 84,797 per household and $ 109,013 per family. 4.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line .
