Manlius is a village in the town of Manlius of the same name in Onondaga County in the state of New York in the United States . The American Community Survey in 2018 estimated the population of Manlius to be 4,520, a decrease compared to the 2010 census when the place had 4,704.

location

Manlius is located in Upstate New York , around 15 kilometers southeast of Syracuse on the Limestone Creek River . Surrounding towns are Fayetteville in the north, Mycenae and Chittenango in the northeast, Cazenovia in the southeast, Atwell Corners and Pompey Center in the south and Jamesville in the west.

Manlius is at the intersection of New York State Routes 92 and 173 . In addition, the southern terminus of New York State Route 257 lies in the area of ​​the Village of Manlius . The US Highway 20 , the west connection East opens up the New York State as important, is located about ten kilometers south of Manlius. About seven kilometers northwest of Manlius is a junction with Interstate Highway 481 .

The Manlius settlement was founded in 1792 by the German emigrant John A. Schaeffer (originally Schäfer). Before the arrival of European settlers in the region, the Manlius area was home to Native American people, the Oneida and Onondaga . From 1794 the settlement belonged to the newly designed Township Number Seven. In 1801 there were six residential buildings, a pub, a grocery store, a doctor's office and a law firm in Manlius alone, as well as three parishes. Shortly afterwards the post office was established. By 1804 the number of residential buildings in the place quintupled to 30. In the same year the Episcopal parish was founded in Manlius. The settlement developed into an important business location, which was reinforced by the construction of the Erie Canal .

From 1813 there was a wool spinning mill in Manlius, which was destroyed by fire in 1830. In 1842 Manlius was incorporated as a village, and Robert Fleming became the first mayor.

Manlius belongs to the Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District . There is no school in the village itself; it is part of the catchment area of ​​Enders Road Elementary School (elementary school, K-4), Eagle Hill Middle School (middle school, 5–8) and Fayetteville-Manlius High School (high school, 9th grade) -12).

In 2018, the American Community Survey estimated the population of Manlius to be 4,520. There were 1985 households and 1159 families in the city. There were married couples in 71.7 percent of families, 9.1 percent were single fathers and 19.2 percent of families were single mothers. 27.4 percent of households had children under the age of 18 living with them, and 47.3 percent of households had people over 60 years of age. Of the population, 87.8 percent were white, 3.7 percent African American , 5.3 percent Asian, and 0.4 percent Native American; 0.3 percent of the residents were of other origins and 2.5 percent of the residents indicated several origins. Hispanics or Latinos made up 2.1 percent of the population. 49.3 percent of the residents of Manlius were male and 50.7 percent were female.

In terms of age, the population of Manlius was divided into 21.8 percent minors, 4.4 percent between 18 and 24, 24.5 percent between 25 and 44, 28.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 21.3 percent of the population were 65 years of age old or older. The median age was 44.5 years. In 2018, the median manlius income per household was $ 65,179 and per family was $ 111,108. 5.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line .
