Celso Morga Iruzubieta (born January 28, 1948 in Huércanos , La Rioja , Spain ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and Archbishop of Mérida-Badajoz .

Life

Celso Morga Iruzubieta received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Calahorra y La Calzada-Logroño on June 24, 1972 .

Morga Iruzubieta was at the University of Navarra in the subject canon law doctorate . He was then pastor and official in the diocese of Calahorra y La Calzada-Logroño. Afterwards, Celso Morga Iruzubieta was an official in the Archdiocese of Córdoba in Argentina and professor of canon law at the seminary of the Archdiocese of Córdoba for four years . In 1987 he became a member of the Congregation for the Clergy , where he became office director in 2000. On January 25, 1993 Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) and on March 30, 2004 the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on November 10, 2009 as Undersecretary of the Congregation for the Clergy.

On December 29, 2010 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. the Titular Archbishop of Alba Maritima and Secretary of the Congregation for the Clergy. The episcopal ordination received his Benedict XVI. on February 5, 2011 in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were Cardinal Dean Angelo Sodano and Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB . On September 21, 2013, Pope Francis confirmed him as Secretary of the Congregation for the Clergy.

On October 8, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him Coadjutor Archbishop of Mérida-Badajoz.

With the age-related resignation of Santiago García Aracil on May 21, 2015, he succeeded him as Archbishop of Mérida-Badajoz.
