Celso Fabián Ortiz Gamarra (born January 26, 1989 in Asunción ) is a Paraguayan football player . The midfielder played for the season 2016/17 in the Liga MX -Verein CF Monterrey and since September 2010 for the Paraguayan national team .

Career

Ortiz began his career at the Paraguayan capital club Club Cerro Porteño . On August 26, 2009 he moved to the Dutch honorary division AZ Alkmaar , where he signed a five-year contract. However, he didn't join the team until January 2010. Ortiz made his league debut on February 9, 2010 when he was brought into play for Maarten Martens in the 2-1 away win over Feyenoord Rotterdam in the closing stages . Only in the following season 2010/11 did he score his first league goal when he scored the winning goal on November 20, 2010 against Twente Enschede for a 2-1 win. After he was only used irregularly in his first 3½ years at Alkmaar, he became a regular player in the 2013/14 season . He lost this status again and again in the following years due to injuries. In total, he made 100 league appearances for AZ Alkmaar, in which he scored two goals.

On June 6, 2016, Celso Ortiz was presented by the Liga MX club CF Monterrey as the first newcomer of the 2016/17 season . He signed a contract with the Mexican club until 2020. He made his debut on July 31 against the CD Cruz Azul . He scored his first goal in the Monterrey shirt in the 4-0 home win against CD Veracruz . Ortiz won the 2017 Apertura of the Copa México with Monterrey . On May 1, 2019, they triumphed in the CONCACAF Champions League 2019 with a 2-1 final victory in two games against the UANL Tigres .

National team

Ortiz completed 10 missions for the Paraguayan U20 national team , in which he scored three goals. With the U20 he took part in the U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009 .

For the A selection of his home country, he made his debut on September 4, 2010 in the 0-1 friendly defeat against Japan .
