Central Statistical Office (Zambia)

The Central Statistical Office (CSO) is the state statistical agency of Zambia . The headquarters of this institution is in Lusaka . There are branch offices in 9 regional administrations.

Legal basis

The main legal basis for the statistical authority of Zambia is the Census and Statistics Act of 2013. It defines the tasks of the authority.

structure

The head office is the official seat of the Director-CSO . Each of the four departments is headed by a deputy director. The four main departments of the CSO are:

  • Economic and Financial Statistics (economic and financial statistics)
  • Agriculture and Environment Statistics (Agriculture and Environment Statistics)
  • Social Statistics (social statistics)
  • Information, Research and Dissemination .

The Central Statistical Office operates branch offices in the provincial administrations. The provincial offices are headed by a Regional Statistician .

tasks

The tasks of the Central Statistical Office include the collection and analysis of official data on economic and social indicators and their dissemination at regular intervals.

Publications

The National Statistical Office produces several printed and digital publications. These are for example:

  • Census Population and Housing Reports
  • Labor Force Report
  • Zambia Demographic and Health Survey Report
  • Living Conditions Monitoring Report
  • Energy Statistics Publication .

Together with the Statistics Department of the African Development Bank , the NSO operates the online platform Zambia Data Portal with figures and graphics. There is also a National Data Archive (NADA).
