history

The church was built towards the end of the 16th century. The entire complex was also used for defense purposes and as a refuge during Tatar attacks in the 17th century. There are still visible traces left by sabers and axes. Due to the demarcation of the border after the Second World War and the forced resettlement of the Ukrainians ( Aktion Weichsel ) in Poland, the church lost its community and was taken over by the Polish state. The equipment came to a museum. The building, tower and cemetery were entered on the voivodeship's national list of monuments in 1960. A restoration was carried out in the early 1960s. In June 2010 the monument protection was renewed and extended to the other buildings of the complex. Since that year the church has been a branch of the Kresów Museum in Lubaczów .

The World Monuments Fund put the church on its list of endangered cultural monuments in 2012. Then the church and tower were covered with new pine shingles. The furnishings and the iconostasis came back from the museum. The structure received a fire extinguishing and lightning protection system . These activities were financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage , the Voivodeship and its Monument Authority. There are plans to renovate a nearby building for use as a museum.

The complex was included in the tentative list of world cultural heritage in 2010 with seven other wooden churches of the Eastern Churches in the Subcarpathian region and in Lesser Poland . The enrollment took place on June 21, 2013 together with eight other objects from Ukraine.

With effect from December 7, 2017, President Andrzej Duda declared the entire building complex to be Pomnik historii .
