The Cetus dwarf galaxy is a spheroid dwarf galaxy in the constellation of the whale . It is about 2.46 million light years away from our solar system and is one of the most isolated galaxies in the Local Group , a group of galaxies to which our Milky Way is a member.

history

The Cetus dwarf galaxy was discovered in 1999 by Alan Whiting, George Hau and Mike Irwin and identified as a member of the Local Group .

properties

So far (status: 2000) no interstellar neutral hydrogen gas has been discovered within the Cetus dwarf galaxy . All of the recently observable stars in this galaxy are red giants .
