location

The castle dates from the second half of the 19th century. It was built for a wealthy cognac producer and dealer and completed in 1873. It stands at the western end of the district of Lignières in the middle of an approximately four- hectare , fully fenced park immediately south of Route départementale 699 ( Jonzac - Angoulême ), around 500 meters west of its intersection with route D1 ( Segonzac - Barbezieux ). The Collinaud brook borders the park to the south: it previously fed the moat of the Le Breuil castle near Bonneuil and will also feed that of the Château de Lignières just 700 meters further west .

architecture

The rectangular building, which was completely renovated in 2004–2005, has two floors on a basement level at the rear and has a floor area of around 19 × 14 m. The front facing the street is five-axis with large lattice windows and a wide staircase leading up to the center of the two-winged portal flanked by pilasters . The floors are separated from each other by cornices . The pilasters of the portal are continued on the upper floor. There they frame a lattice window door that leads to a small balcony framed by iron railings above the portal, and then end in a blown ornamental gable , over which in turn an ornamental dwarf house sits enthroned in the slate mansard hipped roof . To the right and left there is a further, but less splendid, dwarf house.

The two side fronts are four-axis, with four blind windows each on the upper floor and four dwelling houses on the top floor, with the two outer ones also only having blind windows. On the east side, the two outer windows on the ground floor are also blind. On the west side, two doors leading to the kitchen wing and the laundry room next to it are flanked by blind windows in the two central axes of the ground floor, and an external staircase leads to these doors from the front and back.

On the back facing the park, a full-sided terrace runs above the basement, which used to contain the orangery , to which a wide flight of stairs with a curved stone railing that continues the terrace's balustrade leads up. Projects centrally an approximately four-meter prominent and both floors of comprehensive, five-eighths - risalit on, with three windows crowned on each floor and in the attic by three large Zwerchhausfenster. To the right and left there are two large lattice windows on both floors , and on the right and left of the attic there is a representative built dwelling.

Interior

The interior of the castle, renovated and equipped with all the requirements of today's life, is largely furnished in the opulent style of the time. It contains a total of nine bedrooms, eight of which have their own bathroom.

On the ground floor, the portal opens into a large reception hall with marble columns and pillars running the entire length of the building, from which one can access the library, two lounges and a large dining room. A hidden door ( porte cachée ) leads from the dining room to the large and modern kitchen.

The curved main staircase leads from the reception hall to the upper and attic floors, and a second staircase , previously reserved for staff , is at the end of the entrance hall. The two upper floors contain bedrooms and their attached bathrooms, including the spacious grand suite on the south side of the upper floor.

Outbuildings

The property includes two guest houses with two bedrooms each and a horse stable with four large boxes .

The winery that once belonged to the castle is now operated separately.
