Lists on the subject

The Ch-20 ( Russian Х-20 , NATO code name AS-3 Kangaroo ) is an airborne supersonic cruise missile made by the Soviet Union. The Ch-20 is the world's heaviest and largest airborne guided missile.

development

The Ch-20 was designed as a cruise missile against land targets and as a long-range anti-ship guided missile . The development at WPK MAPO (Mikojan) began in 1954. The system was already introduced in 1959 by the Soviet long-distance air forces . A total of 130 guided missiles were produced. The Tupolev Tu-95K was used as a carrier aircraft . The Tu-95K could transport a maximum of one guided weapon half-sunk in the weapon bay. The system remained in use until 1992 and was stationed in Usin, Mosdok and Dolon.

technology

Ch-20M

After the drop, the guided missile accelerated to Mach 1.8 and rose to a cruising altitude of 20,000 m. Up to a distance of 70 km, the missile had to be provided with course corrections by radio from the carrier aircraft. The target approach took place in a flat dive. The CEP hit accuracy was 500–1500 m (depending on the target distance).
