Lists on the subject |
The Ch-23 ( NATO code name AS-7 Kerry ) is a Soviet - made tactical air-to-surface guided missile .
development
Development began in the Zvezda state engineering office in the early 1960s. The system was introduced to the Soviet Air Force in 1968 . The Ch-23 is the Soviet equivalent of the American AGM-12 Bullpup .
Variants:
- Ch-23
- This first production version is also known internally as Isdelije 68. It has a range of 10 km.
- Ch-23M
- This second version has improved electronics.
- Ch-23PS
- Version for combating radar systems.
- Ch-23L
- Prototype with semi-active laser target search.
- Ch-66
- The predecessor model of the Ch-23, the Ch-66 or Isdelije 66 (product 66), is based on the air-to-air guided missile RS-2US . It is powered by a liquid fuel.
The Ch-23 was later developed into the Ch-25 and Ch-27 and replaced by these in the mid-1970s.
technology
The Ch-23 is used to combat armored and bunkered ground targets. Tactical targets such as armored vehicles and ships can also be fought. After take-off, the Ch-23 was controlled manually by the pilot or gunner using a small joystick (with the MiG-23BN using a button on the control stick). The disadvantage of this system was that the shooter always had to have visual contact with the missile and the target. The missiles could only be used during the day when visibility was good.
