Cha Young-chul ( kor. 차 영철 ; born July 28, 1959 in Seoul ) is a former South Korean sports shooter .

successes

Cha Young-chul took part in the Olympic Games three times . At the 1988 Olympic Games in his hometown of Seoul, he only competed with the small caliber in the prone position. In qualifying he scored 598 points and moved into the final as runner-up. There he maintained his placement with another 104.8 points, so that he won the silver medal with a total of 702.8 points behind Miroslav Varga and in front of Attila Záhonyi . In 1992 in Barcelona he finished 17th in the three-position battle with the small bore, while in the prone position he missed qualifying for the final by three points with 18th rank. The Games in 1996 in Atlanta went even worse for Cha when he missed top rankings significantly. He finished the competition in the horizontal position in 36th place, in the three-position fight he did not get beyond 40th place.

In 1990 Cha Young-chul won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Moscow with the air rifle in the team competition. In addition to Cha, Tae Jin-eom and Jung Mo-yoo were also part of the team. At the Asian Games in 1986 in Seoul , he won the gold medal with the small-bore rifle in the prone position in the individual and team competition, and with the standard rifle he secured silver in the three-position battle with the team. In 1990 he finished third in the singles in Beijing in the lying position, while he finished second with the team. In the three-position battle with the small-bore rifle, he won the gold medal in the team competition. Also in 1994 in Hiroshima he took first place in the team competition in the three-position fight with the small caliber, and he also received the bronze medal in the individual, which he also won in the individual in the standing attack. In 1998 in Bangkok and 2002 in Busan , he completed the team competition in the three-position battle with the small caliber, each on the silver rank.

Cha is married and has two children.
