Chalid al-Azm ( Arabic خالد العظم, * 1903 in Damascus , Vilâyet Syria ; † 18th November 1965 in Beirut , Lebanon ) was a Syrian - nationalist politicians .

He was born in 1903 into the Sunni al-Azm family (also known as al-Azem or Alazem ), one of Syria's best-known politically active families. His father was the Minister for Religious Affairs in the Ottoman Empire . Chalid was a graduate of Damascus University .

During the French mandate , Azm was the interim president of the Syrian Republic from April 4 to September 16, 1941 . He was also Prime Minister six times, first from April 4 to September 21, 1941, then from December 16 to 19, 1946, from December 16, 1948 to March 30, 1949, from December 27, 1949 to December 4, 1946. June 1950, from March 27 to August 5, 1951 and most recently from September 17, 1962 to March 9, 1963. From 1947 to 1949 he was Syrian ambassador to France .

He was hostile to Gamal Abdel Nasser and had to flee to Lebanon during the period of unification with Egypt . He was finally exiled when the Baathists put him out of office as prime minister in 1963 .
