Abdul Rahman Kleifawi

Abdul Rahman Kleifawi ( Arabic عبد الرحمن خليفاوي 'Abd ar-Rahman Chalīfāwī , * 1927 in Damascus , League of Nations mandate for Syria and Lebanon ; † March 15, 2009 in Syria ) was a Syrian major general and politician of the Ba'ath Party .

Life

Abd el-Rahman Chleifawi attended school in Damascus and graduated from the officers' school in 1950. In 1971 Chleifawi was promoted to major general. He attended military training courses in the Soviet Union and France . In Deraa governorate he became head of local government and police chief. He later became governor of Hama . In the so-called Joint Arab Command in Cairo he was a representative of Syria from 1965 to 1976. From 1968 to 1970 he was presiding judge of the military tribunal and deputy chairman of the department for officers' affairs. From 1970 to 1971 he was also Minister of the Interior of Syria and Deputy Chairman of the Military Tribunal. In 1971 he was a member of the People's Council . He served as prime minister for the first time from April 3 to December 21, 1972, making him the first prime minister under the presidency of Hafez al-Assad . Chleifawi held this office again from August 7, 1976 to March 27, 1978.

Abd el-Rahman Chleifawi was married and had four children.
