Minister and Prime Minister

On June 22, 2016, he was appointed the new Prime Minister by President Bashar al-Assad and charged with forming a new government; he succeeded Wael al-Halki .

On June 11, 2020, he was dismissed by President Bashar al-Assad and the previous Minister for Water Resources, Hussein Arnus, was appointed as the new Prime Minister. After an ongoing economic crisis, coupled with a massive drop in the currency of the Syrian lira , there were demonstrations shortly before Khamis was released.
